Soewandi Spelling System : ウィキペディア英語版
Republican Spelling System
Republican Spelling System (in Indonesian: ''Ejaan Republik'', when written in current spelling system, or ''edjaan Republik'', when written in this spelling system) was the orthography used by Indonesian from 17 March 1947. This spelling was also called ''Soewandi Spelling'' (in Indonesian Language: ''edjaan Soewandi'') after the Indonesian Minister of Education at the time.
This spelling replaced the earlier spelling system, Van Ophuijsen Spelling System, which was in force from 1901.
The differences between the spelling from Van Ophuijsen Spelling System are:
* Vowel , which in Van Ophuijsen Spelling System was written as ''oe'', became ''u'', for example ''goeroe'' became ''guru''.
* Glottal stop , which was written as ''''' in van Ophuijsen Spelling System, was written as ''k'' in Republican Spelling, for examples ''tak'' (formerly ''ta'''), ''pak'' (formerly ''pa'''), ''maklum'' (formerly ''ma'lum'') and ''rakjat'' (formerly ''ra'jat'').
* Repeated word could be written using numeral ''2'', for example ''ubur2'', ''ber-main2'' and ''ke-barat2-an''.
* Both prefix 'di-' and preposition 'di' was written without space with word after preposition or prefix. Thus, preposition ''di'' (for example ''dirumah'' and ''disawah'') is not differentiated with prefix ''di-'' (for example ''dibeli'' and ''dimakan'').
Soewandi Spelling was in force from 1947 until 1972, then was replaced by Perfected Spelling System (also called by ''EYD'' or ''Ejaan yang Disempurnakan'') when Mansuri Saleh became Minister of Education and Culture. When he was at his post as Minister of Education and Culture at 23 May 1972, Mansuri legalized the usage of Perfected Spelling System, replacing Soewandi Spelling. This event was marked by changing the road sign at the front of his office from ''Djl Tjilatjap'' to ''Jl. Cilacap''.
